SUMMER GAMES 2010
Welcome, These athletes will come from all over the Burin Peninsula from various communities.
To the 2010 Burin Peninsula Summer Games hosted by the Town of Burin. The games will run from Sunday, August 15th to Friday, August 20th.
The Burin Recreation Committee would like to extend a special thank you to Jenna Kelly of Spanish Room, Marystown for writing and recording the theme song "BELIEVE".
The Town of Burin will play host to athletes aged 4 - 18 years. They will participate in 8 different sports with the following age groups:
ATTENTION: Triathlon has been cancelled due to lack of interest.
Cross Country Run is scheduled in it's place, and is planned to run on Wednesday, August 18th at 6:00p.m.
Soccer - U18, U16, U14, U12, U10 (U8, U6, U4 - Coed)
Ball Hockey - U18, U15, U12, U10, U8 (4 on 4 team) (6 cut off age)
Softball - U18, U14, U10 (7 cut off age)
Basketball - U18, U15, U12, U10 (3 on 3 team) (8 cut off age)
Special Olympics - All age groups
Volleyball - U18, U16 (14 cut off age) (Exceptions can be made)
Cross Country Run - 2.5 km run for 15 and under
5 km run for 16 and older
Track & Field (Athletics) - U18, U16, U14, U12, U10, U8 (6 cut off age)
Host - Burin, Frenchman's Cove, Garnish, Winterland, Fox Cove-Mortier, Lewin's Cove, Epworth.
Northern - Terrenceville, St. Bernard's, Jacques Fontaine, Rushoon, Parker's Cove, South East Bight, Petite Forte, Boat Harbour, Harbour Mille, Baine Harbour.
Southern - St. Lawrence, Lawn.
Southwest - Lamaline, Point May, Lord's Cove, Point Au Gaul.
Western - Fortune, Grand Bank, Grand Beach.
Marystown - Marystown, Jean De Baie, Red Harbour.

Objectives of the Burin Peninsula Summer Games:
~ Mass participation - To give as many youth, within the Burin Peninsula Region, the experience of a multi-sport competition. Many will not get this opportunity at the provincial or national level.
~ To stimulate interest in amateur sport.
~ To foster the improvement of sport skills.
~ To develop leadership, teamwork, sportsmanship, and a sense of fairness in the youth of the Burin Peninsula.
~ To develop social skills through social events and the making of new friends.
~ To promote fitness in the youth of the Burin Peninsula and motivate them to become more physically fit.
~ To identify players, coaches, and officials with the potential to become participants at a higher level of competition in future.
~ To make our citizens more aware of the role that Provincial Sport Organizations play in our province.
~ To provide opportunities for children with special needs to participate in organized sport.
